Jack Hinton- Victoria Cross Recipient.

Jack Hinton earned his VC whilst serving in Greece. In April 1941, he was with a large group  of  British and NZ troops, awaiting their evacuation. When the Germans attacked and many were ordered to retreat, Jack argued against the fact of backing down and charged two enemy field guns with hand grenades!
He then invaded two houses, killing every German inside. However, not long afterwards he was shot in the stomach and was taken prisoner of war. While in prison, Hinton escaped twice and had many further attempts. Jack was told he had been awarded a VC when he was laying in a hosspital bed trying to recover from a beating after one of his attempts to escappe.

  1. You have certainly outlined Jack as someone you'd want on your team! What an extraordinary man. The VC is awarded for Gallantry/ extreme bravery. Of all the things he did that you described, which do you think showed the most bravery?

  2. Hi Ms O'dea! Thank you for the lovely comment. I think that he showed most bravery when charged the two enemy battle fields and charged into two german houses.
